Timeline Event:


Jan 03, 1944

Marine Aviator Major Gregory Boyington was shot down by the Japanese near Rabaul and taken as Prisoner of War. Upon his release after the war, he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his prior downing of 26 enemy aircraft and was promoted to Colonel in 1947. Boyington died on 15 Jan 1988 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
