Timeline Event:


Jul 01, 1943

USS Thresher (SS 200) attacked a Japanese convoy off the northwest coast of Celebes, in Makassar Strait, damaging destroyer Hokaze, 00 º 43N, 119º 34E, and sank army cargo ship Yoneyama Maru, 00º 20N, 119 º 32E, 38 miles from Balikapan. Hokaze was grounded in Sibaya Harbor, Celebes, to facilitate salvage.
